| Description: |
With a suave air and easy manner, Chico exudes charm. He is clearly Hispanic (although in real life the actor was only half Puerto-Rican), and sports great hair and a moustache. He usually dresses casually or in work (car mechanic) clothes.
A "Hungarican" (actually, the show only mentions his mother "speaks a little Hungarian"), the enterprising young Chico Rodriguez set out to be a master mechanic and, at the same time, free spirit. He managed to get work in a garage for none other than a cantankerous old man who had nearly lost the capacity to care about anyone or anything; Chico turned "the man's" (Ed Brown's) life around, finding the soft spot in his heart and much as with the Grinch growing it.
Chico loves wine, women, and song, but also has a serious, compassionate side. He seeks to get on people's good side. He's also a bit of a schemer, always trying to get ahead, although never at the expense of anyone.
"Looooo-k-ing goooood!" "Ees not my job, man!" And references to the "little dog in the back of the window with the head bobbing up and down," a '70s affectation
Chico overlaps with a lot of the other TV heroes in his passion for women, and can step on toes with his mechanic abilities (vis-a-vis the Fonz), but nobody can exert their authority like him with a catch phrase. These catch phrases allow Chico to use something that differentiates him from other charismatic characters, his "power" to befriend even those who don't initially like him (see his "Transform" ability).
