Andrew Carter was a simple farmboy from the midwest. Carter used to run a pharmacy in Muncie, Indiana and once blew up several rooms at Rutherford B. Hayes Polytechnic high school, his alma mater. He also claims (in "The Purchasing Plan") that he has a younger brother and had attended business school. He used to date a girl named Mary Jane and would carry her home from school when it snowed. (source http://www.grooviespad.com/stalag13/office/FAQ.htm). He's also known to be part Sioux. He, somewhat like MASH's Radar, maintained a child-like naivete and eagerness despite being at war (not that Hogan's Heroes really experienced war like most people), and joined Hogan's Heroes in 1942, after Hogan's team was in place. His history since the war is up to the player...

"The camp chemist and demolitions expert, with a talent for Hitler impressions. Aside from his absolute love of explosives, Carter is the most amiable and good-natured of the men. He also has a habit of blurting out whatever comes into his head. " - (http://classictv.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=classictv&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fbarracks.4t.com%2F) Carter is an enthusiastic team member.

"You get kind of tired of working with your average, garden variety demolition pack." (per http://classictv.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=classictv&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fbarracks.4t.com%2F) "You got it, boy! Uh, I mean sir." "I kinda always thought that if there was to be an ultimate weapon, it would be mine." "It does take intelligence to be stupid." "Ka-BOOM!"--Carter, describing a pending explosion. (many quotes from http://www.angelfire.com/pa/hoganshero/)

Carter is, of course, often the man for a demolitions job. He's also quite handy should a German impersonation be required.
