Asterick (*) started in Boston. Credit (or blame) to the shape of * over time goes primarily to Steve Harriman, Bruce Patterson, and Wilson Zorn, who started the band and who established the ground rules. Bruce was only involved a short time but his influence, both as a friend and musician, remains. Steve and Wilson wrote a bunch of songs and got a couple people involved: there was the mysterious Claud (Claud, hope you run across this someday, write me and let me know how you are) who played with us for a brief time, and Heidi Patterson (not related to Bruce) who played with us for a long time. Wilson moved on and for a long while * was his solo project, generally remaining faithful to the direction he and Steve solidified. In 2006 Jordan Weiss, introduced via their work together with the Meddle Men, joined forces and now * is a duo.
* has been and continues to be about making real artful music. Neither eschewing pop nor embracing it, *'s pieces vary although stylistically there are certain elements which generally remain constant: an ethos of accessibility, a spirit of minimalism, a love of darkness, a propensity for noise, a desire to communicate, and a little playfulness.
